Important Climate Meeting to Attend in Houston - on Wednesday the 17th!

From the: The Texas Climate Emergency Campaign

A TOWN HALL MEETING ON CLIMATE CHANGE and GREEN JOBS

Chief Meteorologist, KHOU Channel 11

WHO:

Congressman Al Green - Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

State Sen. Mario Gallegos - Rep. Garnet Coleman - Rep. Sylvester Turner

We'd like to ask all of our Houston supporters to attend this important town hall meeting on Wednesday, June 17th (see below). As you may know, the American Clean Energy and Security Act is on its way to the House Floor, and we need "champions" like Congresspersons Al Green and Sheila Jackson Lee to step forward and ask that the bill be strengthened when it reaches the floor. We need stronger cuts in carbon emissions, 100% auctions, and careful monitoring of offsets, and most importantly, we need to follow the science on this issue. PLEASE attend, this could be your last chance to influence this bill, and your last chance to save the future of your children and grandchildren!

WHERE:

Communications Workers of America , Local 6222 1730 Jefferson Street, Houston , TX 77003

WHEN:

Wednesday, June 17, 2009 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Registration will open at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be provided

For more information, contact: Dallas Jones or Brandon Dudley Office of Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis 713-236-0306; Dallas.Jones@senate.state.tx.us

IF YOU CAN’T COME THEN CALL YOUR US CONGRESS PERSON

Then call your own congressperson (numbers below) and tell him or her that you want these provisions from the bill strengthened:

1) you want deeper cuts in carbon emissions, to match what climate scientists are calling for--25 to 40% below 1990 levels

2) you want 100% auctions of pollution credits, bringing more money back to the people from the big corporations

3) you want fewer offsets, which make it possible for polluters to pollute more

Tell your congressional representative, too, that you fully support Congressman Lloyd Doggett's efforts to get a fair hearing for the bill on the full House floor, and that you believe consideration should be delayed until that happens.

Time is running out--on the bill, on the chances for success in the UN conference in Copenhagen, and on the future of our planet. The bill could go to a vote as soon as a week from tomorrow. We learned today that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is going to pour $100 million dollars into defeating this bill and the healthcare bill. It's hard to keep up with those numbers! All we have are our voices---and we must take action now!

Here's a list of Democratic congressional representatives (no point in calling Repubs), along with their DC phone numbers...
